"Spirit in the Barn" is a sculpture of a Barn
Owl. I have had the opportunity to study and work with these magnificent birds first hand in the studio and in the field,
as part of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, animal rescue volunteers. I have done several sculptures of Barn
Owls over the years, they are my favorite owl. "Spirit in the Barn"is my favorite because it deals
more with the character and gesture of these birds than just their beauty. I understand that Native Americans in my area believed
the Barn Owl was a spirit. Seeing and hearing a Barn Owl in a building at night, it's not hard to see why they believed
this. The owls will drop their heads and swoop it back and forth all the time clicking their bill, which is truly amazing.
That was the inspiration behind "Spirit on the Barn".
